Minimum Crew Size Legislation on Freight Trains H.R. 233

Now at the FRA and Office of Management and Budget.  In the meantime, our rail unions have a sponsor from Alaska, Congressman Don Young a Republican.  The bill has the same wording as before but, a different number.  (H.R. 233)  Our Union needs your help!  *Contact your Congressman.  Better yet, write them a personal letter explaining the need for Two People in the Cab.  Ask them to Co-Sponsor (H.R. 233).

AMTRAK-The Presidents proposed budget threatens Amtrak long distance routes.  Let your U.S. Congressman and both U.S. Senators know that Amtrak is equally important to rural communities as well as metropolitan areas. Tell them to fully fund Amtrak and keep this vital service, which serves Florida communities, and helps alleviate Florida congested roads.  Amtrak Ridership has broken records reaching 31 million passengers and 2.2 billion dollars in ticket revenue for 2016.

Right To Work-National Right To Work Legislation would amend the National Labor Relations Act and the Railway labor Act.  This legislation would prohibit "security clauses" a standard part of labor contracts that requires workers to pay fees "dues" to labor organizations that bargain on their behalf. The intention of the bill is to destroy what is left of organized labor.    https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/785

H.R. 785 Sponsored by Steve King, Republican, IOWA

S. 545 Sponsored by Rand Paul, Republican, Kentucky

Against Labor: Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio has Co-Sponsored S 545

Call your Congressman and tell them not to Co-Sponsor or support union busting.

BLET Political Action Committee

 HELP US HELP YOU

Money from the BLET-PAC is used to help in the fight on Capitol Hill for issues that impact your job, your family and your future.

  1. Railroad Retirement
    • Amtrak Funding
      • Federal Employers' Liability Act
        • Railroad Security
          • Railroad Safety

Big Railroads spend big money in Washington to influence members of Congress and push their anti-worker plans. In the last election cycle, Union Pacific donated a whopping $2,444,993 to federal candidates. BNSF threw in $2,590,882. CSX and Norfolk Southern donated $1,256,931 and $1,273,796 respectively.

Despite this eye popping spending by the Big Railroads, through aggressive lobbying on Capitol Hill and in State Houses and City Halls across America, our union worked to stop some of the worst attacks on our members. Congress and state legislatures increasingly control vital aspects of the railroad industry and our profession. We must support those in elected office that support us, on issues that are important to us, and to our families.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN?

Big Railroads are pushing their agenda harder than ever. That means we have to fight back stronger than ever. Unions cannot just react when important issues arise. We must get in the game early and help set the agenda. BLET-PAC helps elect and retain elected officials who share our concerns.

I ALREADY PAY UNION DUES

Laws prohibit the use of union dues for political purposes. Your voluntary BLET-PAC contribution fills this gap and enable us to helpful those who share our interest on the state and national level.

I UNDERSTAND IMPORTANT THINGS ARE GOING ON IN WASHINGTON, BUT WHAT ABOUT PRESSING ISSUES IN MY STATE?

Your contribution is divided evenly between a national fund and a fund overseen by your State Legislative Board Chairman, who coordinates contributions to candidates on the state level, as well as recommending contributions for federal candidates.

I'M ALMOST READY TO RETIRE

BLET-PAC also works for our retired members and their spouses. We're working to protect you interests on matters related to Railroad Retirement, survivors benefits, and other timely issues.

Think about it:

$5 a month is the price of lunch, a few cups of coffee, a magazine, or a few lotto tickets.
$10 is the price of a movie.
$20 and $50 dollars is a tremendous shot in the arm for our folks fighting in the trenches.

How do I SIGN UP!
